5 Ways to Show Your Home Some Love this Valentine’s Day

Home is where the heart is.

We’ve all heard it, but somehow we forget about our homes when Valentine’s Day rolls around. Every February 14th, we take time to show our love to the family and friends we spend our time with; but what about where we spend most of our time? Our homes. After spending time making the design of a home look nice, don’t forget about the functionality of it.

Here are 5 easy ways to show your home some love this Valentine’s day:

1. Freshen Filters

Everyone is accustomed to getting the oil changed on their car every few months, but why do we forget about filters on our furnaces? It’s recommended that you change your furnace filter once every one to three months. It only takes a minute and does wonder for the air quality in your home.

2. Anticipate AC

There are a few easy things you can do to prepare your air conditioning unit for the upcoming warmer months. Replace refrigerant if you notice it’s at a low level, clean out clogged condensation lines, and replace dirty filter just as you did for the furnace.

3. Wrap Windows

Save heat by insulating your windows with saran wrap. This will alleviate some of the work load for your furnace and lower your electricity bill. Air leaks can account for 15-35% of the overall energy used to heat and cool an average home. You can use household saran wrap or try out other options such as rubber weather sealing, cellular shades, draft snakes, and more.

4. Vacuum Vents

Vents are usually out of sight, out of mind, but as the source of air throughout your home they need to be taken care of, too. Dust builds up in vents and radiators and is propelled into your home. Take 15 minutes twice a year to clean out your vents and radiators and you’ll thank yourself.

5. Dryer Ducts

Lint filters are cleaned out between every use, but dryer ducts usually get neglected. When a dryer duct is dirty, air is not able to flow easily out of the dryer. A dirty duct can cause unnecessary wear and tear on a dryer and can even lead to a fire. It’s recommended that ducts get cleaned at least two times per year.

We realize household work isn’t the most romantic activity for Valentine’s day, but mark your calendars for February 15th.
