When Should I Replace My AC System?

So… how do you know for sure when it is time to replace your existing cooling system? Here are some guidelines:

More and more repairs needed. If your system is causing you to call for service more and more frequently, you may have reached the point of diminishing returns. A failing system can waste a great deal of money.

Your home is not cooling properly. The causes of this common problem can range from an aging system that has simply reached its end of life to a wrong-sized AC condenser unit that never should have been installed at your location in the first place – an all-too-common issue.

Energy bills keep going up. A reduction in efficiency is a clear indicator that it’s time for replacement. Current cooling systems have the latest technology and can be much more efficient than systems that may be only a few years old.

Diminishing air quality. A reduction in air quality is a common sign that your system is no longer working properly.

Too old. Generally speaking, you can expect 10 or so faithful years of service from your AC system. Beyond that, you’ll save money on efficiency and repairs by scheduling an air conditioning replacement.

At Blue Ox Heating & Air, we can help you diagnose and decide whether to fix what you have vs. installing a new cooling system.

Have You Heard About High-Velocity AC?

Many customers are generally aware that air conditioning technology has gotten more and more efficient over the years. But did you know that one new type of AC system now offers an entirely different way to install cooling in your home?

We’re talking about high-velocity air conditioning systems. Some of the first users of this exciting new technology were owners of grand old historic homes that just didn’t have space for the large ductwork required in traditional central-air installations. With high-velocity AC, the air is distributed via approximately 2-inch diameter flex tubing. This is not only more affordable, compared to the much larger metal-duct installations; it also is significantly less labor-intensive to install.

In some cases, a high-velocity AC system is the only way a home can be centrally cooled at all without spinning up a major construction project.

At Blue Ox Heating & Air, we have deep experience in high-velocity AC systems. We can help you avoid the pitfalls that can arise from a less-than-optimal installation. For example, some homeowners find that the air flow from certain locations can be distracting. However, with years of experience designing and installing these systems, our experts understand and eliminate these issues during the system design phase.
